Carolina Herrera took flowers as her starting point for Spring, as she’s no doubt done countless times before. This go-round was different. Where once she might’ve been content to create something merely pretty, here she seemed eager to push the boundaries, sample new fabrics, embellish with unexpected materials, and marry the natural world with technology.

Flowers affected every aspect of the collection. Their hues dictated the color palette of the garments. Their oversized blooms boldly expanded out onto the architecturally crafted ensembles. Even the shimmering effect of dew on petals was abstractly referenced in a smattering of beadwork.

But where the modernity came into play was in the designer’s choice to use photographic images of flowers and manipulate them on the high tech clothing. Petals would blossom brightly on tecnho jersey pieces, go “grayscale” on viscose crepe gowns, or become a pixilated version of themselves thanks to some beautiful foam embroidery on jackets and skirts.  Carolina Herrera proved that flower can not only just used as a girly decoration but could make a dress strong and proud.

I fiori vengono utilizzati non come accessorio per rendere romantico un abito, ma al contrario il contrasto con colori forti quali il bordeaux ed il fucsia danno un tocco nettamente più moderno alle linee degli abiti e donano fierezza alla donne che li indossa.
Ma la modernità di questa collezione non è solo data dalle linee pulite degli abiti ma anche dal gioco quasi “tridimensionale” dei fiori sovrapposti.
Carolina Herrera dimostra che i fiori non solo possono essere usati come accessorio romantico e decorativo, ma hanno anche la capacità di trasmettere forza e determinazione.
